Time to talk about 90 Day Fiance – again

A picture is worth a thousand words

It’s that time of year again, when the greatest network in the history of television, TLC decides to trot out the biggest train wreck of a television show again for another season, 90 Day Fiance.  Long story short, pathetic American singles get engaged to people from other countries, and via the K-1 Visa, bring them to America, where they then have 90 days to either get married, or the mail order spouses have to go back to their respective countries.

Anyway, before I eventually start posting about season 3, I wanted to touch base with the recently aired where are they now special they released in regards to the couples of season 2.  Most notably, like most fans of the show, they wanted to know what happened between Danielle and Mohamed, easily the most polarizing couple in the show’s brief existence.

It should also be worth mentioning that in this follow-up special, two couples declined participation this time; combined with the follow-up from season 1, in both seasons, the dudes who married Filipino women have declined participation in the follow-ups, as both Louis/Aya and now Brett/Daya have dodged the prying eyes of inquiring viewers, leading to the probably conclusion that they were shams and that they didn’t work out.  Shocking.

Back to the S2 follow-up, of the four remaining couples, one seems legitimately happy, one is scraping by but is seemingly happy, one is the odd couple that seems to be working out while walking on egg shells, and then there’s Danielle and Mohamed.

So, we’re all happy for Danny and Amy, they’re in love, they’re happy, and they just had a son.  Great, happy ending, we probably don’t need to hear from them ever again frankly.

Chelsea and Yamir, to no surprise, have not made it into Chicago yet, and probably won’t get there, because they’re barely able to afford living in a single room apartment where they share a day bed and a utility sink, but still seem to be happy regardless.  Both have gained a noticeable amount of weight, but it’s hard to not respect and admire Yamir’s perseverance and determination to not give up on his culture and his dreams of making it as a musician.  He’s also learning English at a rapid pace on the side while writing music, and although the production quality of his so-called music video was a little embarrassing, the point is that he still did something.  Ultimately, Yamir is still too good for Chelsea, and gave up way too much for what’s still somewhat of a tremendously steep hill of a dream to chase.

Jason and Cassia are the weird couple, that in spite of the thought that they would never work out while watching season 2, seem like that there really couldn’t be any people better for one another now.  They still live with Jason’s dad, who has clearly changed his thinking noticeably and is now more of a sage wise father than he was in the actual season.  But Cassia is tired of living in a retirement community with a husband that makes a living peddling shit on eBay, on top of random internet ventures, and wants to move to the exciting bustle and life of . . . Tampa.

But one thing’s certain, neither of them really hide who they are.  Jason is a dork who gets overly excited about making $3 on balloons on eBay, and Cassia freely admits that she’s not ready for children, and still has some self-centered dreams that she wants to pursue.  They’re pretty transparent to everyone, and it’s clear that it’s not the perfect union, but they’re somehow making it work in spite of everything.

Which finally brings us to Danielle and Mohamed.  Here’s what we know based on internet sleuthing since the end of season 2:

  • Mohamed and Danielle’s son, Corey, had an altercation, leading to a restraining order being put on Corey
  • Mohamed has been sighted in New York and Las Vegas
  • It has become somewhat of a sport for people to troll the shit out of Danielle over social media

As if the show clearly knew who the main event was supposed to be, all the juicy bits of clarification were saved for last on the special:

  • Danielle has become estranged from her sister Sara and most of her extended family over their general disagreement over Mohamed
  • Mohamed has been confirmed to have visited New York and Las Vegas, along with somewhere in South Carolina, over “job leads” that have resulted in no jobs
  • Numerous women have claimed over social media, that they have had trysts with Mohamed during his numerous solo travels, with one of them claiming to be pregnant; which is the impetus behind Danielle’s fallout with her sister and family
  • Danielle’s three daughters who all live with her all hate Mohamed (surprise)
  • The narrative behind Corey’s restraining order was that he threatened to throw Mohamed out the window.  He is legally ordered to stay away from Mohamed for two years, and the legal infraction has impaired his ability to find gainful employment
  • Mohamed is now legally capable of working in the United States, and works a job that is presumably manual labor, for 13 hours a day.
  • Danielle and Mohamed allegedly “do all things married couples do;” but in private
  • Danielle and Mohamed have had numerous arguments, resulting in divorce being threatened repeatedly

In other words Danielle and Mohamed are living exactly the train wreck that was expected, and is being enjoyed by the sadistic fans of train wreck television.  Neither are happy being together, Mohamed has done absolutely nothing to dissuade people from thinking that he is using Danielle to mule him into the country, and Danielle is delusional about everything.

Mohamed verbatim calls Danielle weak for baiting and feeding internet trolls, for a guy that is allegedly doing so many despicable things like having multiple affairs and knocking up women that aren’t his wife, he’s certainly ahead of the curve, or at least ahead of Danielle when it comes to dealing with internet trolls; by ignoring them.

It should also be noted that Mohamed is sporting either a busted lip or one gnarly herpes sore on his lip during filming.  Neither of which probably has a pleasant story behind them.

And in spite of the overwhelming camp of those who want Danielle to dump Mohamed, the follow-up wraps up with Mohamed talking down and further manipulating Danielle, and the ruse continues for Allah knows how much longer.

But damned if I wouldn’t be excited to find out what happens next.
