Oh, how loudly money speaks

Sometimes, a story comes along, where all integrity just ceases to exist, due to the overwhelming presence of money, introduced into the scenario.

Case in point: the mythical girlfriend pointed me towards this ironically horrible story, where the only possible reaction is to laugh incredulously at the absurdity of it, and the subsequent resolution.  But in short, a Saudi man is accused of rape, whereas he claims he tripped and fell on top of an 18-year old girl sleeping on a couch, and oh yeah, penetrated her and left traces of semen inside of her.

Never mind the absurdity of the physical scenario of a grown adult falling on top of a teenager, as well as the off-chance that he just happened to have a stiffy that just so happened to conveniently accidentally enter a vagina.  And I guess in his panicked attempt to withdraw as soon as possible he just happened to have the stamina of a 13-year old finding Cinemax after 11 pm, and blew his wad in the process.

Anyway, he was found innocent of charges by a jury.

Oh yeah, he also happens to be a real estate mogul, and has millions of dollars.

I mean, there’s pretty much zero doubt that every single juror was paid off; at this point, since the trial is over, if the jurors were told that they wouldn’t get in trouble for it, they’d probably all fess up and divulge just how much they were given to say innocent.

But the fact that an accused person could actually present such an absurd turn of events, akin to a toddler making shit up on the fly to get away with breaking something, or a Mortal Kombat canon writer; and then actually get away with it goes to show just how powerful the almighty dollar actually is.

I wonder just how hard it must be for an accredited writer to write about this and try and maintain journalistic neutrality.  I mean, this isn’t an ordinary run-of-the-mill destruction or property or an incident where only inanimate objects were affected, this was a sexual assault case, where someone with a lot of money is conveniently found innocent of rape, in spite of some pretty irrefutable evidence, on grounds of an outlandish story.

But seriously, I can’t imagine it’s the least bit possible to actually summarize the events of this entire debacle with a straight face, and imagine that there’s not going to be some degree of fallout and criticism from those who read it.

Money speaks, it’s nothing we don’t all already know.  But sometimes we get reminders like this that remind us just how loudly it does.
