Technological irony-slash-fail

Long story short: Despite being in prison, prisoners are somehow procuring cell phones, and using them to orchestrate crimes via other criminals not in jail, despite being behind bars themselves.

Never mind the fact that the State of Georgia claims to have the signal blocking/intercepting umbrella technology that would help prevent such things.  As far as I’m concerned what seems ironic to me is that Georgia prisons are more capable of sending and receiving data, than my gym.  Prisoners are able to send text messages and make phone calls, orchestrating elaborate crimes such as robberies and fraud while in prison, while I’m struggling to check Facebook or send/receive a text message at the gym.

It’s not that I’m always checking my phone while at the gym, but there are times when there are adequate opportunities to take a glance at things, like when I’m in the cooldown period of either running or on the stationery bicycle, but my gym is apparently more of a signal-snuffing concrete prison than an actual Georgia prison is, and it’s neigh impossible to do such.  But in the case of emergency or something urgent, it would be nice to know that data has the capability of freely making it to my phone if necessary; knock on wood, hopefully that kind of scenario never comes to fruition, but I’d hope that if it ever did, an important call wouldn’t get snuffed out by the dearth of signal in the place.

I wonder if it’s possible for civilians to work out at prisons in Georgia?  It’s not like prison yards don’t have the same equipment I’m lifting with, and I’d imagine the murderous stares and intentions of the inmates might make me feel motivated to lift harder and stronger, so that they don’t think I’m weak and rapebait.  And with the sizes of most prison properties, I’d imagine I’d have plenty of space to run long laps and keep my cardio up to par.  Also, I’d have to believe that there’s far less bullshit, bad techno music blaring through improperly equipped headphones, and narcissists parading around wanting to be looked at.

But the most important thing is that I’d have extremely reliable signal and data capabilities, so I’d never have to worry about any emergency calls or messages not being able to come through.  Maybe as a matter of safety, all the prisoners should be transferred to my gym, so that the concern of cell phone communication being utilized to orchestrate crimes simply couldn’t happen at all.
