lol MARTA #156

One of these days, I really should actually keep count of how many times I make a post based on the ironically humorous failings of MARTA, and have an accurate number, but for the time being 156 seems like an accurate enough number of the times that I’ve found humor at the expense of MARTA.

Long story short: MARTA Police has decided to look outside of the city and outside of the state to recruit. They have decided to visit Detroit, Fort Lee and possibly Puerto Rico. MARTA Police cites that they have very stringent requirements that they are looking for as justification for external candidate search.

Knee-jerk reaction(s):

  • Atlanta residents are too smart to want to work for MARTA; they would probably make more money, face fewer furloughs, and frankly be safer on a daily basis, working at a fast-food restaurant.
  • Only in a bankrupt, hopeless and desolate city like Detroit might there be anyone so desperate for work and hope for a better future to be duped into relocating to Atlanta to work for MARTA.
  • If “stringent requirements” include not being around when you’re needed, using MARTA cars to do personal errands in places well beyond the radius of MARTA properties, turning the other cheek to prosecutable offenses, and being inadvertent accomplice to party for World Star Hip Hop videos, it’s pretty sad (or something to be proud of) that there’s the need for external candidate search.

But really, this is something that is kind of puzzling. It is a little hard to believe that in a city of 4 million people with a surrounding metropolitan area with a vastly large population itself, that there doesn’t exist 12-39 qualified candidates for MARTA Police. This really does have to mean that those in Atlanta and the Metro area simply don’t want to work for MARTA, putting them in the position to where they have no other choice than to seek elsewhere. Otherwise frankly, this becomes one of those “outsourcing is bad” scenarios, but there doesn’t seem to be any complaints that I can see.

Or maybe it’s the fact that people in Georgia know how much (more) nightmarish MARTA is going to be, now that it’s basically okay to be able to carry guns pretty much everywhere now.
