The new Bumblebee Corvette looks stupid

I was driving around the other day, and I saw this car drive by in a turning lane.  If not for the signature Chevy/checkered flag decal, I wouldn’t have had the slightest idea that it was the latest iteration of the Corvette.

Not that I’ve paid a tremendous amount of attention throughout the last few generations, but Corvettes have always been somewhat easily identifiable from the rear by the four circular lights on the back; although the body styles may have changed throughout the generations, the general idea of four circular lights on the back has maintained quite literally since almost the 1960s.

I’m not entirely against change, but I always think it’s nice to have some degree of consistency or a general signature, other than a decal, and I think Corvette had it with their tail light design.  But with the introduction of this current look, not only have they generally stripped the car of one of its chief identifiers, they’ve also gone and made it basically look like Bumblebee from Transformers; especially since the one I saw, and the one pictured above is of the yellow variant.

Maybe it’s me, and I’m getting old, and resistant to change, but I can’t really jive with today’s car designs of looking like futuristic space ships now.  I know that trends change, and ideals conform, but I have to say that I was a fan of purposeful curves, and sleek lines.  I know that’s not necessarily the meta aesthetic preferred by the masses, in favor of sharper lines, and boxy shapes, but that’s just what I prefer.  And off the top of my head, I can think of several iterations of the Corvette that were more to my aesthetic, and at the same time, they looked classic and sophisticated, instead of looking like what would happen if you gave a kid who grew up on Star Wars and Star Trek a crayon and told him to design a car.

Needless to say, the current Corvette looks stupid.  It looks like a phaser gun with wheels or something,m and doesn’t exude the sophistication yet signature message that if they wanted to race you, they’d probably smoke you.  Now, it just looks like a Transformer that can’t actually transform, therefore making it a pretty lame excuse for a vehicle.
