Profit matters

This is funny to me: Public outraged over Black Lives Matter merchandise being sold on Walmart.com

This is about the definition of an everyone loses situation.  White people are outraged over BLM crap being sold at Walmart, because they’re all inherently racist and don’t really think that black lives matter.  Black people are outraged over BLM crap being sold at Walmart, because they feel that the movement is “theirs,” and take offense to someone other than “them” making money on it.  Walmart loses because it doesn’t matter what they do, they can’t not get negative press, further reinforcing the notion that they are incapable of ever doing the right thing, except finding an endless well of bridges to burn for the sake of nickel and dime profiting.

For me, the funniest thing about this entire thing is that when seeking stuff online like the t-shirt, it’s the auto-population on the website that displays a BLM shirt on the guy from The Blue Lagoon.  He looks like about the last guy on the planet that would want to be seen wearing a BLM t-shirt, much less be immortalized on the internet as a victim of shitty code and lack of creativity and be screen grabbed as a fervent supporter of such “a terrorist group.”

Let’s not even get started on the fact that they sell a sweatshirt emblazoned with the phrase “Bulletproof.”  There is no doubt that someone out there will interpret that literally, and purchase the sweatshirt, thinking that it will protect them from gunfire. And then they’ll go and try and rob a bank, or conversely, attempt to stop an armed criminal, and then get shot and learn immediately that it was not in fact, bulletproof.

The bottom line is that Walmart did something stupid in the name of trying to make profit, and nobody is happy about it except for sadistic bystanders like myself.  Aside from cheap plumbing, tools and disposable materials, I don’t shop at Walmart to begin with, so this is pretty much a non-factor in my little world.  Just take a few steps back and look at the situation; they’re not selling BLM crap because the company actually believes BLs actually M, but because they see the potential to make money on it.  Everyone who already isn’t blinded by racism about merely the mention of BLM can see right through Walmart’s bullshit, but they don’t care.  All that matters to Walmart in the end is profit, and it doesn’t matter who they piss off or how many bridges they burn, just as long as it keeps coming in.
