Updates required

As my annual aging draws nearer, I guess now is as good of time as any to bust out a good old fashioned “back in the day” kind of posts.  But over the weekend, I wanted to watch a stream of a League of Legends match because of course I would.  But instead of watching it on a computer screen, I figured why not watch it on my big screen television, because such a thing is possible?  So I turned on the XBOX One that I have no games for, because I basically plunked down $300 for a glorified app player, so I could log into Twitch and watch.

But first, there’s an updated that needed to be applied, and it was somewhere in the vicinity of 2.3 GB.  Even hardwired, that’s still a little bit of time to move that much data.  So I sit around with my thumbs up my ass waiting for this update to download and install, before finally, it’s completed.  Turns out that I don’t have Twitch installed on my XBONE, so I have to download that.  Update required.

So while Twitch is updating, I figure why the fuck not just get on my PC and just watch it on a monitor instead, so I turn on my computer, only to find out that there are now Windows updates that need to be installed, and my virus protection software has found updates and would like to apply them.

Stories like this sicken me

Literally.  Maybe it was the slice of pound cake earlier in the day, but I’d rather give credit to this shitty story for making me feel unwell earlier in the day.

Long story short: Brookhaven PR director is fired due to comments being taken out of context and preemptively reported as an incident of discrimination without all of the facts being present.

Brookhaven is a pretty nice neighborhood, just north of the actual city proper limits of Atlanta.  It’s also a neighborhood synonymous for being a somewhat affluent “white” neighborhood.

Two weeks ago, there was supposedly a festival being held in Brookhaven.  As lots of public events like to have, a photographer was hired to do some event photography during the festival, presumably so that the city as well as the PR department could have some ostensibly nice photos to glorify the expected success of the event itself.

Filling up the wrong column, boys

In some regards, this kind of start was unexpected.  Sure, it’s in all likelihood not going to last, but for what it’s worth, it’s amusing to see at any point in the season, that the Atlanta Braves are sitting up in first place, undefeated much less.

And in other regards, it’s also not that much of a surprise that the Braves are off to this kind of good start; yes, me and everyone else had pretty much written the Braves off and chalked them in for a billion losses this season, but the team isn’t completely putrid.  It’s more like, there are very glaringly putrid components and segments of the team, but that’s not to say that there are individuals who are not all bad either.

Namely the starting pitching.  It’s only been three games, but the starting pitching have all done their jobs in holding a Marlins squad expected to compete for second or third place in the division, with slim playoff aspirations once Jose Fernandez returns and if he proves to be capable, to three runs over three games.  Julio Teheran, Alex Wood and Shelby Miller have all delivered in their first starts of the year, and there’s plenty of reason to feel positive if they can keep up this kind of performance for an extended duration of time.

I’m not entirely sure why this is a surprise to anyone

Long story short: White people run Gwinnett County, despite it being “the most diverse county in the (American) Southeast.”  Apparently, this is perceived as problematic to many.

When I worked for ScumTrust, ScumTrust really wanted to get their foot in the door with the mythical untapped wealth that was contained within Hispanic-American communities all across their foothold.  It was believed that Hispanics had a very limited number of financial institutions that they could reliably trust, and that there were thousands of Hispanics that alternatively, sacked cash away in pillowcases or plastic barrels buried on their properties.

Eventually, ScumTrust acquired a reputable Hispanic bank chain, and it was my department’s job to produce Spanish-language versions of just about everything we already had in order to market to the wealth of Hispanic customers that they wanted.

Feelin’ mediocre

I’m having one of those afternoons where I am disappointed, dejected and more or less bummed out.  Naturally, I had a train cart full of thoughts and emotions swirling around my head while I was driving home, but now that I’m behind the keys, I can’t seem to put any words down to convey how I’m feeling.

For starters, it all began with the fact that my submission didn’t make it into the Capcom Fighting Tribute book being released by Udon.  I knew the odds of getting in were pretty slim, given the fact that I was years out of practice when it comes to illustrating, but I honestly thought that I had a pretty winning idea, that if the right people understood what I was trying to convey, I might have a shot, on a humor route.  I liked my idea more than my art, and you can’t hit home runs if you don’t step to the plate, so regardless, I sent my submission out, and waited the month of anticipation and excitement with an alleged thousands of artists.

I can’t say I’m the least bit surprised when I found out that I didn’t make it into the book, because frankly there are a billion outrageously good artists out there in the world who make my best shot look like a toddler’s drawing of the American flag with seven stars and four stripes, and many more that won’t/didn’t get into the book much like me.  However, it doesn’t change the fact that I feel kind of crushed and defeated, nonetheless.

On Opening Day 2015

Long story short: Braves trade All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel and Melvin “Stop calling me B.J.” Upton to the Padres.

Opening Day wasn’t even a full 24 hours away when this trade became official, and in one final fell swoop before the first game of the season, the Braves effectively trade the best relief pitcher in the game away, as well as one of the worst players in the game.

In return, the Braves get an old outfielder who can’t really play the outfield anymore in Carlos Quentin, as well as a guy that will always have the what-if ball and chain attached to his name and potential in Cameron Maybin.  Additionally, the Braves receive two supposed minor league studs, and an additional pick going into the 2015 draft.

Either I’m growing up, or WHY HONDA, WHY??

Impetus: Honda announces the next Civic Type-R(RRRRRRRRRRRR) will be released globally, meaning the United States will finally get the Civic Type-R for the first time.

Too bad it looks like Kermit the Frog was abducted by Storm Troopers, and enough scientific engineering were done to successfully mate a puppet with the general look of a suit of armor, resulting in this lime green turd.

Seriously, when I saw this picture of the new Civic Type-R, the first one that would be available in the United States, this is the first thing that popped into my head:
