Chalk this up in the “no shit” column

POLL: Most Americans don’t want cell phone calls on planes

Most Americans also don’t want increased gas prices and higher taxes.  The sky is also blue, and human beings breathe air to live.  Wet water.  Hot fire.  Ninja Assassin.

Yeah no shit most Americans don’t want people to be able to make phone calls while in flight.  The people that aren’t “most” ARE the inconsiderate motherfuckers who want to be able to make obnoxious phone calls while in flight.

Imagine sitting on a flight, in first class, and Sharkeisha is blabbing away to her homegirl back in Compton, right behind the curtain in seat 11C.  Or you’re trying to read a book on your Kindle, but the Vietnamese lady next to you is on the phone with her girlfriend (sorry, Vietnamese is THE most obnoxious language to hear being spoken), and your mp3 player can’t possibly get any louder to drown it out.  And then there’s Captain Corporate who decides that the entire flight seems like a great opportunity to conduct a business meeting over the phone, and you’re stuck being able to hear his entire arsenal of corporate buzzwords and bullshit clichés to his subordinates who are all no doubt sitting at their office phones with the mute button engaged, and barely trying to pay attention to make sure that none of them are addressed.

No matter how much self-importance pilots and airline workers put onto themselves, when the day is over, the flight industry is still another form of public transportation.  They’re essentially airborne, expensive buses with wings that are more time-efficient at a substantially higher cost from getting from point A to point B.  And anyone who’s ever ridden any other forms of public transportation, be it an actual bus, or a train, is already privy to the awful, obnoxious behavior of people that are allowed to use make calls on their cell phones while riding them.  When we’re paying out the nose to ride an airplane, why the fuck do we want to be exposed to shitty bus or train behavior?

The bottom line is that I hope to hell that the FAA or the FCC or whatever agency is in charge of this decision makes the right one, and continues to prevent the capability of making cell phone calls aboard a flight.  People are often obnoxious enough on flights by being either too fat, neglectful parents, and/or oblivious to the personal space of others, that things don’t need to be made even worse by allowing them to blab away on their cell phones.
