lol MARTA #458

What is this, Great Britain?  MARTA to test double-decker buses for the summer.

I’ve often had this curiosity with buses.  Before the company went kaput, I was intrigued by the idea of riding the Fung-Wah Bus, because you can’t say you’ve really lived life unless it’s been in danger once in a while.  When the opportunity to ride a MegaBus presented itself, I remember being quite intrigued and kind of excited, instead of the dread at having to settle for the lowest common denominator to get to Point B, like everyone else’s faces were saying when waiting to board it.

I have never ridden a MARTA bus, once.  I don’t really plan on doing so, if I can ever help it.  As an Atlanta motorist, MARTA buses are a pestilence on the streets, with their drivers having no regard for other life on the road, and almost live to solely troll other drivers.  I very much dislike MARTA buses, and wish to never ride one.

For those who aren’t aware, MegaBuses are double-decker.  The first time I rode it, I eagerly clamored up to the upper deck, because I’d never ridden on the second floor of a bus.  When the bus embarked, it turned out that the promised on-board Wi-Fi didn’t work, and neither did the power outlet for my seat.  By the time I realized these flaws, it was too late to move, and every single other outlet was already taken.

It’s like I knew what to expect, but it didn’t really sink in just how much it was going to suck.

The second time I rode MegaBus, it was because there was no other choice, and I was in a very desperate situation where I needed to get to Orlando at a very specific time, and standing by to Orlando is never easy or a sure thing, and I needed a sure thing.  This time, I rode with the disgruntled apathy of a grizzled veteran, positioned myself to where I could get on first, took a seat next to the exit, but not before making sure the power outlet worked.  I took sleeping pills to knock myself out for the vast majority of the trip and felt immense relief when arriving at my destination.

I have little desire to ever ride MegaBus again, if it can be helped.

A MARTA double-decker bus just screams something equally negative, like a Breaking Bad mobile meth lab or a re-branded prisoner transport truck.  If MegaBus is bad, then I can only imagine a MARTA double-decker will have to be doubly bad, given that the riders will be local and at the start, from Clayton County, where the worst of the worst usually come from.

Allegedly, the bus will travel a different route each week.  Considering there are nearly 120 routes, there aren’t enough weeks between now and the end of August for them all to get a little love.  Regardless, I really, really, really hope that the double-decker gets on the #2 route.  I would bet money that the bus would without question, forget about its height and slam into the Druid Hills Bridge.  That would make my year, and this year has dug a pretty big hole already.
