Social media discretion

I’m by nature a pretty cynical person.  Yeah, I know that that’s not necessarily the greatest personality trait to admit to, but it’s kind of true.  Thoughts go through my mind all the time whenever I see certain things, and it’s often times a mental scale being weighed on whether or not I should say them, or express them on social media.  I thought about it today, and if I had to place a number on the thoughts that I don’t say, I’d would probably venture something like 85-90% of thoughts that might come off as cynically skeptical do not make it through the pipes and out of my mouth or typed by my fingers.

As a sample, here’s a thought I had that I’ll share on my brog because only six people read it, but wouldn’t share on social media, because that would paint me publicly as a curmudgeon:

Nobody who’s already been to a prior Comic Con actually envies those who are going for the present one.

The summer vacation I never wanted

A part of me never really wanted to talk about this, but just the same, there are times where I feel that I brog, because I want to write about the things in my life that are important, even if they’re not necessarily the best of connotations.  It’s not so much that I’m brogging to my audience of six, for their inquiring or alleviation of boredom, but at the same time an opportunity for me to chronicle my own life, and write things that I can look back and reflect upon or remind myself of what had happened at particular points of my life.

It’s not always just League of Legends, wrestling, sports and veiled social commentary, y’know.

Long story short, I haven’t been working for the better part of the last month now.  I resigned from my previous job, which most people knew because they know me, or can probably figure out by the fact that I got Confederate Memorial Day off every year, was along the lines of government work.  Things were a little oppressive, and a little too Big Brother-y, there were some archaic policies and mindsets in play, and in the end, I grew exasperated with my position, and it was just best that we parted ways and wished each other well on our future endeavors.

Not really a fan of the Miss Fortune visual update

TL:DR: Riot has given a visual update to Miss Fortune.

I don’t play her much as I used to, because I play a ton of ARAM, and MF isn’t really that effective in the current Summoner’s Rift meta, but ultimately, Miss Fortune has always been one of my favorite champions, since I started playing League.

Seriously, MF was the first champion that I really grew to love playing, and during the grind to level 30, I played Miss Fortune practically 75% of all those games.  She was the first champion that I purchased with RP instead of IP, because I was determined to have her once her free week was over, and then she was also the first champion that I ever bought a skin for.

I’m sure this logo will look great underneath a giant orange THE HOME DEPOT logo

Long story short: Atlanta’s future Major League Soccer team unveils its team’s logo (above).

Like the vast majority of the newer sports logos coming out, Atlanta United FC (Futbol Club)’s newly unveiled logo, is basically a pog. And why wouldn’t it be? Pogs are perfect circles and perfect circles are safe, sort of versatile, and nothing says “trying to fit in,” like doing what everyone else is doing, when it comes to the notion of branding a professional sports franchise.

Well, it really could have been worse, and frankly, Atlanta United FC is a way safer name than if it were something that were trying to pay too much homage to the city, like one of the various corporations that runs roughshod throughout the rest of the city.

But the reason that I decided to take this story and brog about it, is naturally all the rhetoric that is spewed out to justify a design, because when the day is over, most of it is utter bullshit, and really boils down to the fact that those in charge, AKA those who paid the most money, AKA probably Arthur Blank, co-CEO of Home Depot, decided that something fit their personal aesthetics.

A match worth watching

Sometimes I wonder what goes on in the mind of WWE personnel whenever they have a televised match on one of their flagship shows that absolutely tears the roof off the building.  Is it either an “oh shit, I can’t believe we just gave that away for free” feeling, or is it a “we’re creeping towards stale programming, and we really have to throw the audience a bone lest they start bitching with gas” feeling, or somewhere in between?

It’s no secret that wrestling television shows exist primarily to sell wrestling products, such as the WWE Network, merchandise and other endeavors, and that there’s typically a wall or ceiling of quality that they’re typically allowed to display, so that they can keep the really awesome things in their back pockets for those willing to shell out the extra money to see them.

It’s also no secret that without restriction or boundaries, almost any two wrestlers in the locker room could put on a five-star classic on any given night.  Seriously, just because they’re portrayed as jobbers, or not even wrestlers on the flagship WWE shows doesn’t mean that they’re not actually capable of wrestling.  Just a few months ago, there was rumblings of basically a borderline mutiny within the WWE locker room, because the company’s own developmental territory in NXT was putting on way higher quality of a show, with “lesser-known” talent from what’s basically portrayed as the company’s minor leagues (it’s actually more of a holding pen).

Independence Day musings

I don’t know what it’s been recently, but I just haven’t really had the drive to do much writing lately.  My schedule is all sorts of rearranged lately, and I guess I just haven’t really taken the time to sit down, look at the happenings around the world, and try and find some motivation to write.  This definitely deviates from my desire to remain a somewhat consistent brogger, and as everyone who has ever written (and failed) to maintain a blog, the onus is on us to keep on writing.

With July 4th now in the rear view, I saw a few things that caught my attention that might warrant a few words, or at least serve as somewhat of an impetus to write something.

Firstly, we have this story from the Peachtree Road Race, a 10K run that I’ve done myself 4-5 times in the past.  Frankly, I’m glad that I didn’t do it this year, because for starters, I have nothing left to prove, since I’ve done it 4-5 times, and secondly, this particular year apparently broke the tradition of where the weather somehow maintains something decent, and instead was a torrential downpour and had some delays, something that I didn’t even know they ever did.

No MGM Grand Atlanta, pls

Impetus: MGM Resorts pitches a $1 billion dollar proposed casino and entertainment complex for the city of Atlanta.

Thanks, but no thanks.  I don’t want an MGM casino in my city, much less any casino at all.

The thing is, I do like casinos and gambling, but frankly, I don’t want either to be so readily available basically in my own backyard.  Frankly, I like the idea of escaping to Las Vegas for a couple days, where I can gamble to my heart’s content, eat like a ravenous glutton, drink like a fish, but then leave it all behind when I hop on a plane and leave.

Having an MGM Grand Atlanta would mean that if I ever had the temptation to play some blackjack or craps, there would be no want for a trip to Vegas or anywhere else that has decent, reputable gaming, I could just head over to the local casino, and inevitably lose, since as the old adage goes, the house always wins in the end.
